The Curious Case of Shepard Fairey

By February 5, 2009 September 1st, 2014 No Comments

obama-faireyHey, it looks like everyone’s favorite cutting-edge artist, Shepard Fairey, is under fire for using an Associated Press image to make his now ubiquitous Obama/Hope print┬áseen on posters, buttons, bumper stickers, cel phone backgrounds, and anywhere else people might bother to look.

The AP claims the image he used for the cutout is not “fair use” and wants Fairey to pay them money.

Fairey says they are fair use since Obama was/is a public political figure, or something like that.

So, I extend my condolences and offer help to Shep and his case, since I faced the exact same situation with Cafe Press. Fun times…
